A recent study carried out by the University of Iowa, in the United States, has concluded that chewing food 40 times is the ideal.

According to the study, this is a perfect way to avoid eating more and more food, which basically leads to maintaining a moderate diet in terms of the amount consumed. The more times we chew, the less hungry we feel. This is because chewing food more times and at a slower pace increases levels of CCK, the hormone related to the sensation of fullness, and decreases the concentration of Grelina, the hormone that stimulates appetite in our brain.

To conduct the study, the researchers and their director, James Hollis, asked several volunteers to eat pizza, with half chewing each bite 15 times and the other half 40 times. The second group significantly reduced their appetite, and it was also observed that nutrient absorption during digestion was more optimal.
